Austrian Gustav Klimt was an "Art Nouveau" painter who loved to incorporate hidden imagery in a Byzantine luxuriance of form and color. Klimt's art mirrored the psychology of his time, and he was violently criticized for it. His subtly erotic work was deemed dangerous to impressionable young minds and was often displayed behind a screen.
