Pierre Renoir began his career as a painter of factory porcelain. Perhaps this influenced his favorite choice of subjects - he loved to paint pretty children, beautiful flowers, and lovely women - and his paintings sparkle with color and light. Although friendly with several of the major French Impressionists of the day, Renoir struggled early in his career, but later enjoyed considerable success as a portraitist.
